Barbecued Meatballs

This is a favorite request from visitors.

Use the meatball instructions to get as many batches in the freezer as you like.

Then when you need to entertain guest, pull at batch of meatballs from the freezer.  As the oven pre-heats, mix up the sauce and soon you will be entertaining.

Ingredients

MEATBALLS:

  • 3 pounds DS Family Farm Ground Beef
  • 12 fluid ounces (1 can) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup cracker crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder

SAUCE:

  • 2 cups catsup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion

Instructions

Meatball Instructions:

  1. To make meatballs, combine all ingredients (mixture will be soft) and form into walnut-size balls.
  2. Place meatballs in a single layer on wax paper-lined cookie sheets; freeze until solid. This will add time to the recipe.
  3. Store frozen meatballs in freezer bags until ready to cook.

Sauce Instructions:

  1. As oven is pre-heating, combine all sauce ingredients and stir until sugar is dissolved.

Cooking and Serving Instructions:

  1. Place frozen meatballs in a 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan.
  2. Pour on the sauce.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
  4. Transfer meatballs to crock pot to keep warm and for serving.
