Anyone else notice an explosion of mushrooms/fungus with cool wet weather after extremely dry period. I believe this is a sign of a healthy ecosystem in our pasture.

Grandpa’s little farm helper! We are currently into clearing some areas of cut trees.

Our pastures are primarily warm season native grasses (brown stockpile grass in background of this photo). It is nice to have these pockets of cool season grasses for the cattle to take advantage of after the warm season grasses go dormant. This is a sub irrigated area of the farm primarily reeds canary grass. Reeds is known to have high alkaloids. This herd of cattle have adapted to the Reeds and knows how to balance their diet to avoid any issues. The key is to give the herd options in their diet. Let them select from the available forages.

With pasture forages lignifying, the sheep appreciate trees that are still holding on to a few GREEN LEAVES. The sheep are grazing the LEAF DROP! We really like these low maintenance hair sheep. They do well with minimal input.
